About

Brown in Media is a project, by writer Fareeha Molvi, that explores how brown people are represented on screen. Here, “brown-ness” refers to the experience of being Muslim, South Asian, Middle Eastern and/or children of immigrants in the diaspora. From TV celebrities to politicians and influencers, brown people (and our cultures) are in the public eye more than ever before. This is a home to break down what that means and why it’s important.

Fareeha Molvi is a cultural essayist who’s work explores identity in America. Her work has been featured in Allure, Glamour, Teen Vogue, New York Magazine and others. She’s been cited as an expert in the New York Times, Inc. and CBC Q.
